A cancer diagnosis can be a very emotional and difficult time for most patients. From day 1, most patients go through an emotional rollercoaster and navigating the many challenges can appear overwhelming. Your pharmacist is an important member of your healthcare team who can help you navigate many of the resources available. More specifically, your pharmacist can:
- Assist you with providing a Medication Review and help you better understand how to get the maximum benefit from your therapy.
- Provide advice on what to expect and how to reduce the side effects of cancer medications.
- Provide regular counselling and support on how to use your medications.
Your pharmacist is here and ready to help at any time. Pharmacists encourage patients to call ahead and book a one-on-one consultation with a pharmacist, away from distractions and in a private environment where they can answer any question you may have. We may not have all the answers at our fingertips, but we can help you find them.
Below are links to many great organizations in Canada that also provide support and information. There are also resources in Nova Scotia that can provide financial assistance with medication coverage. We encourage you to contact Nova Scotia Pharmacare at Nova Scotia Pharmacare - Drug Assistance for Cancer Patients
