Infectious Disease Update: Lyme Disease, Herpes Zoster, UTI

Steve is the clinical coordinator for the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program for the Western Zone of the province. He also serves as a clinical pharmacist for general medicine and oncology. Steve enjoys teaching, as he currently lectures for cardiac rehab, COPD rehab and for the family residency program, as well as mentoring students from the Universities of Dalhousie, Memorial and Toronto. Steve also works shifts at Chisholm’s Pharmachoice in Aylesford where he is an active participant in BLOOM, a community pharmacy mental health and addictions monitoring program.


This presentation will include a review of the disease presentation, risk factors and treatment for each of Herpes Zoster, Lyme Disease and Urinary Tract Infections.

  • Identify the presenting symptoms and features of each disease
  • Recognize and consider risk factors which may impact the assessment these illnesses
  • Select appropriate treatment choices and outline any required follow-up
  • Apply Antimicrobial Stewardship principles as it pertains to UTIs
