Other Healthcare Providers

As part of the healthcare system, pharmacists work alongside other healthcare providers as medication experts, helping ensure treatments are safe, effective, and appropriate for patients.

Pharmacists collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other professionals by reviewing prescriptions, identifying potential drug interactions or dosing concerns, recommending therapy changes, and monitoring patients’ responses to medications.

Pharmacists can assess and prescribe for a number of conditions including Pink Eye, Strep Throat, ear infections, UTIs, birth control, Shingles, Lyme disease, help manage chronic conditions such as COPD, asthma, and diabetes, and more. See Pharmacy Services Guide in Nova Scotia for more details.

Like other primary healthcare providers, pharmacy clinics EMRs are uploaded to the central patient record.
