Prescription Adaptations

Your pharmacist may modify the dose or length of therapy of your prescription to ensure you have the most effective treatment.

An adpatation is an insured service for those who have a valid Nova Scotia Healthcard when done to improve clinical effectiveness/outcomes of the patient and may include refusal to fill a prescription for a drug monitored by NS Prescription Monitoring Program.  The following circumstances apply:

  • The beneficiary provides consent to authorize the pharmacist to make the adaptation.
  • The pharmacist performs an assessment with the patient.
  • The pharmacist is responsible for determining the appropriateness of the adaptation before performing the service.
